Narrowboat Satellite TV Dishes

For some time we have been supplying and installing satellite tv equipment for Narrowboats and Dutch barges.

Over the years we have come to understand some of the problems facing the boating fraternity and will address some of those issues in this section.

Height Issues

One of the main problems facing the boat owner is that of height. When we say height we mean the lack of height as a Narrowboat has at least 30% of its area below the water line the vessel sits very low in the water. This provides great stability for the boat but means that the vessel is very low in the water.

This is made worse by the way in which most UK canals are designed and by the fact that most canals pass through some wonderful countryside with tall trees and hedges.

To enable you to watch television you need to have a clear view of the sky which can be difficult on some of the UK waterways.

Boat Movement

Another problem facing the Narrowboat owner is that of boat movement. Nothing is more annoying that watching the F1 on a Sunday when another boat passes you at a rate of knots and your whole boat rocks so badly that the picture is lost.

The only real way to overcome this is to have a stable satellite system.

This can be achieved in two ways, either get your satellite dish as low to the water as you can or to get a bigger dish to it is not that sensitive.

We have found 2 different ways to overcome the problem. The first is with the Camos Dome satellite system as pictured above.

The unit is designed in such a way as to optimize the signal from the satellite and this in turn gives you a high quality picture.

The Camos dome has a smaller dish that most but makes up for it by being very accurate. We have fitted the 30cm version of the dome for many years and have had very few problems with its performance.

However the Camos Dome Satellite system is a fully automatic satellite system as as such works out to be a little expensive for some.

If you are working to a budget the the secont option would be the Multimo portable satellite system.

The Multimo has been around for quite a long time and is the best selling manual satellite system in the country, it has been used in for everything from camping to permanent installation on someone wall.

The unit comes as a basic satellite dish with cable and clamp or as a fill kit with everything needed to use it.

You can watch this little video of how to set up a Multimo to show just how easy it is to use.
